Teaching The “Wait” For Doors and Gates
A “wait” command is a must for all dog owners, not just agility dogs as it is a basic way to introduce your dog to impulse control.
It can be used for start line stays, basic obedience, control at meal times and for safety around doors and gates.
In this video you will see how easy it is to teach this command to your dog to keep them from bolting out doors of all kinds.
Not only can this save them from getting out and hit by a car, it can also save you from being side swiped from a bolting dog.
The only change I would make to this lesson is that the dog does not understand in and out of a door or gate, just passing through them.
Instead of allowing the dog to meander back through the gate, they should display the same behavior on both sides.
