Teaching an Older Dog Down

Not unlike the puppy, training an older dog takes a good share of patience especially one that is new to the family.

Not only do you have to build their trust in you, but confidence in themselves and their ability to learn.

This video also shows and explains alternate methods of getting a dog into the down position using props.

It is important to remember at the beginning of all training, whether a puppy or older dog, to use single word commands.

And you never want to scold during lessons, especially with their name. The dog’s name should always be associated with positive reinforcement.
