Using Tug Play for Impulse Control in Your Agility Dog
Correct tug play is a great way to not only teach impulse control, but drive in dogs when used as a reward.
This is also a necessary lesson to teach prior to using a flirt pole with your dog to get equally good results.
Please note that an end behavior as well as adding focus on the handler, are essential parts of the training.
As with all impulse control games, you are looking for the dog to focus on you to get what they want instead of fixating on the object of their desire.
Controlled tug is great exercise for your dog, keeping the pull at the dog’s height and not “hanging” them by the toy, insures they do not injure a muscle or teeth in playing the game.
