Proper Tug Play Using Two Toys
This would be considered an advanced tug game after the dog has learned a release cue when playing tug.
However, this game may be the best way to teach your dog a solid release if they don’t want to release a toy even for treats.
Sarah is introducing 14-week-old Applejack to a variation of the 2 Toy Game, but it is great for dogs of all ages learning to tug.
In this game you are building drive in both the retrieve and the release of toys and will advance to single toy use.
Notice the timing Sarah has in her throw of the new toy as soon as she gets the release and the immediate recall when the toy is retrieved.
Using your dog’s play drive to gain drive in commands is like a gold mine, be sure to SHARE this game with all your dog loving friends.
