How to Care for Your Agility Dog’s Broken Toenail
Dog agility courses are riddled with opportunity for your dog to injure itself despite all our precautionary measures.
Our dog’s feet are the easiest to injure as they are small and unprotected on the surfaces they are running on or through.
Anyone who has “quicked” a dog knows the toenail is a profuse bleeder so first off don’t panic at the amount of blood.
Then follow Dr. Adrienne Mulligan’s helpful tips on caring for the toenail until you can get your dog to the vet.
One super tip is if you do not have “quick stop” available to use, you can use regular baking flour to stop the bleeding.
She also shows you the correct way to bandage the foot to minimize the bleeding until you get your dog to the vet.
