Improving Distance Handling With a Hoop Part 1

This is a fun video showing you how to start getting your dog to work away from you using a new obstacle.

This Airedale has been retired from agility and never worked with a hoop before so you get to watch as the dog learns.

Right away you can tell this dog has had a lot of training and is a willing partner really trying to figure out what is wanted.

The point here is that the dog is learning a new obstacle and with that is gaining confidence in performing it.

As the dog becomes proficient and comfortable with it, the handler starts “proofing” which in this case is adding distance from the handler to the obstacle start.

You can use a hoop or tunnel scrunched up or teach your dog to “go round” a simple jump standard or weave pole.
